A GOOD TIME FOR BOTH? STILL ON NEWPORT

Boss on tonight as out of form sides go head-to-head

Having lost five of their last six matches in League 2 the Town head to Newport County this evening aiming to bounce back to form to reignite their promotion push.

Newport, like the Hatters, harbour hopes of a successful end to the campaign. But the Exiles, who lost manager Justin Edinburgh to Gillingham last month, have gone five home games without a win and scored just twice in that spell.

Two out of forms meet in South Wales tonight – and that's a fact not lost on Town boss John Still.

"They're probably saying it's a good time to be playing Luton," answered the manager when asked if he thought it was a good time to be playing a County side now managed by a good friend of his, Jimmy Dack.

"I don't know if there is a good time, I'm not big on all of that. Jimmy is someone I know very well, he's a good man and I'm glad he got the opportunity to manage.

"Like lots of clubs in this league, he'll look upon Luton as a feather in his cap. But we've dealt with a lot of clubs who'll view Luton as a feather in their cap.

"We'll pay Newport the same respect as we pay anyone and try and be at our best to get three points."

While the Town may have struggled for results in recent weeks, Still’s side can take heart from the fact they have already been Newport twice this season, once in League 2 and once in the FA Cup.

But the manager pinpointed a number of threats that the Town will need to be wary of at Rodney Parade.

"Ismail Yakubu was a young lad I had at Barnet and you always look out for those players, he's a whole hearted player," said Still.

"I remember seeing Forest Green with Yan Klukowski; I always liked him. Lee Minshull's come through at a few clubs, so I think they've got more than a few decent players.

"Their driving force is Darren Jones, the centre half. He's a good, solid, honest leader of a player and I think they'll be up for this game."
