Town fair well in inaugural walking football tournament
The Football League South East regional Walking Football tournament on Friday – hosted by the Hatters at Venue 360 – saw the Town crash out in the semi-finals with both teams losing to Norwich City and AFC Wimbledon respectively.
With over 50 participants entered into the tournament from Stevenage, AFC Wimbledon, Norwich City, Northampton Town and three Hatters teams a very closely fought tournament saw eventual winners Wimbledon progress to the National Finals at FA Headquarters, St Georges Park.
All three Hatters teams made the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win against Stevenage and a 5-1 win against Northampton seeing two teams in with a chance of glory. However, it wasn't to be with a 3-1 defeat against Norwich City and a 2-0 against AFC Wimbledon, who ran out 3-0 eventual winners against the Canaries.
The Hatters players were not too disheartened. Town fan Mark Robinson tweeted: “Thanks to the blokes I played with and great to meet other Luton fans.” Arthur Mason agreed, also on Twitter: “Was a fantastic afternoon and great to meet new guys.” Paul Moriarty added: “It was a great day and hope we can all meet up again.”
Well Hatters fans of a certain age, we agree! It was a great afternoon and a huge success - so watch this space for news of future walking football events being organized by our Community Department.
