Midfielder's delight at reaching 300 appearances

Jake Howells was a proud and emotional man after making his 300th appearance for the Hatters in the 1-0 win at Plymouth on Saturday.

The 23-year-old became the youngest Town player of all-time to reach the landmark figure on a day to remember for the midfielder.

“It’s a weird feeling,” said Howells, who was given a hearty round of applause by his team-mates in the dressing room before the match. “It’s quite emotional to be honest.”

Howells made his debut as a 17-year-old against Huddersfield on the final day of the 2007/08 in League 1.

And the Town academy graduate paid tribute to all of those involved at Kenilworth Road since making his first team bow.

“When I made my debut against I never thought I’d play this many games at the age of 23. It’s unbelievable,” Howells told Player.

“I’m just proud of myself, the fans, the players, everyone that’s backed me and all the managers that have played me.

“I’ve seen all the lows. I think I’ve been at the lowest point – getting relegated two leagues in a row.

“It’s not been easy and I’ve had problems off the pitch as well as on the pitch, but ups and downs are part of football and I’m over the moon to play 300 games for this club.”
