Dev squad fixture ends goals as Lawless makes return

Midfielder Alex Lawless came through 45 minutes of football as the Town development squad held Brighton to a goalless draw at Kenilworth Road in the Final Third Development League Cup.

Lawless has been missing for the Hatters since the 1-0 win over Northampton at the end of October, and took his place in a strong Town line-up against the Championship Seagulls.

The Welshman was well involved in a first half in which the Town came close, with Alex Wall denied the best chance when his stinging low drive was turned away by Albion keeper Harry Doherty.

After the break – and with Lawless substituted for Ricky Miller – the Town continued to create plenty of chances, only to see Doherty deny them.

Miller, Charlie Walker, Alex Lacey and Jim Stevenson all came close to breaking the deadlock as the Town dominated.

But the Hatters failed to beat Doherty and the tie ended in a goalless draw in a round-robin tournament that has already seen the Town lose to AFC Wimbledon.

Town: Justham; Collins, Connolly, Franks, Lacey; Robinson, Stevenson, Lawless (sub Miller 46), Walker, Wall, Lafayette (sub Musonda 59). Subs not used: Gooch, Ngwala, Maguraushe.
