Still hopes cup replay doesn't distract Saturday's visitors

John Still is hoping Cambridge United arrive at Kenilworth Road on Saturday without thinking about their impending trip to Manchester United.

The Hatters’ visitors at the weekend held the Red Devils to a goalless draw in the FA Cup last week to book a replay at Old Trafford which takes place next Tuesday.

Would the Town love it if United minds wandered on Saturday? Will the Cambridge players take it easy and want to avoid injury and suspension to ensure they are available for next week’s replay?

“You might think I’m telling lies here but I hope they don’t,” admitted Still. “I hope they come here up and at it so it’s a proper game.

“Our players get better by playing against the best teams and the best players. That is how we have improved as a team.

“To improve we have to compete and play against the best individually and collectively. The way I look at it, between now and the end of the season, we are going to have some tough, tough games. If Cambridge don’t turn up on Saturday is that the best preparation for us? No.

“We want to play teams with pace, power, aggression and belief; otherwise we’re going to stand still. And standing still is going backwards.

“If I was playing [for Cambridge] I’d be doing enough to make sure I was playing on Tuesday.”
