Howells set for Town return at Exeter

Jake Howells has been brought back in the Hatters squad for Saturday’s League 2 trip to Exeter City after admitting he took some “wrong steps” in his career this year.

The 24-year-old has not played for the Town since the final game of last season and was put on the transfer list at his own request in the summer.

However, after a one-month spell on-loan at Yeovil, Howells, who has made 317 appearances for the Hatters, returned to Kenilworth Road and has regularly featured for the development squad.

“Maybe I took some wrong steps in my career – at the time I felt that was the best for me personally,” Howells explained to our official YouTube channel on Thursday.

“Selfishly that’s what I chose to do and it didn’t work out.

“I still think I can give something to the squad. I’ll give 100 per cent and everyone knows I’m a Luton boy, it’s all I know.

“Going to Yeovil was a massive eye-opener. It showed me what other clubs are like. Everything that has happened in the summer, and going to Yeovil, is something I can learn from and use to my advantage now.”

Howells’ return to the fray was agreed before Thursday’s departure of John Still – but the academy graduate is now hoping the team can end a run of four straight defeats at Exeter this weekend.

“Hopefully I can help the boys and the new signings as much as I can with my experience of the Club,” he said. “The plan is to get us up the table sooner rather than later.”

Jake has been assigned squad number 40.
