Get on the Town's new signing to score at Stanley

The odds on the Town taking the League 2 title have tumbled over course of the summer, and on Saturday they head to Accrington as the clear 6/1 second favourites to win League 2 with league sponsors Sky Bet.

The Football League’s official title sponsor make the Hatters favourites to pick up all three points at Accrington. Sky Bet go 11/8 that John Still’s side can get the campaign off to a winning start against John Coleman’s Stanley.

Accrington, always hugely underestimated by the bookies each season (they are the 7/2 favourites with Sky Bet to be relegated), are 2/1 to beat the Town while the draw is a 9/4 shot.

Both sides took time to get into the swing of things form wise last season, but the Town XI involved at the Crown Ground this weekend will want to hit the ground running, especially considering how hot competition for places will be over the next 10 months.

What team John Still picks on the opening day of the season remains to be seen, but it would be no surprise if the Hatters boss pick new signing Craig Mackail-Smith in attack. The Scotland striker is the 11/2 favourite with Sky Bet to score the first goal of the game. As this early stage of the season that could turn out to be a good price. He’s 2/1 to score at any time, 12/1 to score twice and 100/1 to crown his debut with a hat-trick.

Saturday’s recommendation:

Craig Mackail-Smith to score first 11/2
