Super Galliford brace inspires Town dev + watch the goals!

The Hatters development squad wrapped-up their title-winning campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Gillingham at Kenilworth Road.

The Town fielded three trialists; 22-year-old striker Shaun Tuton from Buxton; Paulton Rovers winger Jon Davies, 24; and Concord Rangers’ 19-year-old midfielder Taylor Miles.

A number of the Town’s youth team players, together with the returning Fraser Franks, joined Curtley Williams and Matt Robinson in the starting XI.

Tuton came close inside the first two minutes with a low shot from the edge of box but the Hatters led shortly before the quarter-hour when Isaac Galliford burst forward, swapped passes with Tuton and finished with aplomb from just inside the box.

On the half-hour the Hatters came close to doubling the lead when Frankie Musonda’s header from Galliford’s cross was saved before the Gills keeper then stopped Tuton’s shot from 12 yards having been found by Galliford’s disguised pass.

As half-time approached Luke Trotman came close to doubling the Town’s lead when he thumped a shot inches wide of the target from the edge of the box.

After the break the Hatters continued to push the visitors back and the second goal did arrive early after the restart when Davies’ left-wing cross was guided home by Tuton, sliding home in the six-yard box at the back post.

With the Town now in control and bossing possession, the clear-cut chances dried up for a 20-minute period, but after Galliford and Tuton both blazed over the former did make it 3-0 with another fine striker with three minutes left when crashing home from 20 yards.

The Hatters sensed blood in the final moments but Trotman was twice unable to convert having been found by Tuton and Robinson – and that was that.

Town: Gooch, Williams, Justin, Musonda, Franks; Robinson, Trotman, Miles; Davies (sub Rees 76), Galliford, Tuton. Subs not used: Famewo, Atkinson, Craig.
