Youngsters earn point against Posh
A youthful Under-18s side missing six second-year scholars held Peterborough United to a goalless draw in the Youth Alliance on Saturday morning.
Boss Paul Driver started with two Under-16 players – whilst four of those youngsters from that age group were on the pitch at the end of the stalemate.
The Town were unlucky against Posh with Tuki Tayali going close in the first 20 minutes. However the Hatters then lost the striker to injury on the 25-minute mark.
Alex Atkinson sent a header against the crossbar with the Hatters’ bench chance and Peterborough only threatened goalkeeper Liam Gooch’s goal from set-pieces, as the Town kept their first clean sheet since mid-October.
Driver said afterwards: “A draw was a fair result but I’m delighted with the result and performance against a Peterborough side who I think will finish in the top three this season.
“Missing a number of players either out on work experience or injury meant we fielded a very young team but the boys who featured can be proud of their efforts.
“We were competitive and had chances to win the game but we’ll take a point.”
