Banishing the bogey grounds
If you had told a Town fan back in August after the 1-0 defeat at Southport that the team would be 14 points clear come the end of March they would have phoned up the men in white coats to come and take them away.
The same could be said if you said to them that the Hatters would also go and win away fixtures at Alfreton, Braintree and Macclesfield.
Yet, following a remarkable season so far, that is exactly the case. No longer do the Town fret about so-called “bogey grounds”. Control the controllables and all that.
The Hatters never win at Grimsby. Okay, well not “never”, but their record is abysmal, just six wins in 25 visits and eight defeats in the last 15. Most of them usually on a cold Tuesday night beside the Humber Estuary.
But this Hatters team is not the one that lost twice at Blundell Park last season. And it’s not the one that got beat 7-1 back in 1996. It’s the team that is top of the league and doesn’t care for bogey grounds of the past. This is a Luton team that’s 14 points clear and has won at Alfreton, Braintree and Macclesfield this season.
So forget the “the Haters never win at Grimsby” mantra and stick a quid on 2-0 Town.
