Hammers hammered

The Hatters were celebrating reaching Wembley for the second year running on this day in 1989.

A 2-0 victory over West Ham at Kenilworth Road, courtesy of goals from Mick Harford and Roy Wegerle sealed a 5-0 aggregate win over the Hammers to seal the Town’s place in a second successive Littlewoods Cup final.

The Hatters would, however, lose 3-1 to Nottingham Forest at Wembley in the final despite taking the lead through Harford. That victory over the Iron was the last time the Town tasted success at Kenilworth Road on this date.
