57 DAYS TO GO...

Our countdown to the new season continues...Just 57 days to go

It all started in January 2012.

Andre Gray had impressed the Town playing for Hinckley United in the FA Trophy and two months later the striker was making his Hatters debut against Grimsby at Kenilworth Road. He scored the opening goal in a 1-1 draw.

With the Hatters in a bad run of form, Gray’s goals were the catalyst for the Town’s surge towards the Play-Offs. He netted seven goals, including the opening goal in the Play-Off final against York. But the less about that game the better.

Last (as in 2012/13, we’re still unsure when we can call the 2013/14 “last” or “this”) season the Wolverhampton-born frontman scored 20 goals in his first full campaign with the Town – a tally he had already beat with 14 matches still to play during 2013/14.

Gray grabbed his first hat-trick for the Hatters in the 4-1 win over Hyde in October and added a further two matchballs to his mantlepiece with trebles in the wins over Nuneaton and Hereford.

The striker ended the campaign just gone with 30 goals, taking his overall record in Luton colours to 57 goals in 111 games. 36 of those goals have come at Kenilworth Road.

Gray’s achievements won him a plethora of end-of-season awards, most notably the Conference Golden Boot, but the striker also picked up three trophies at the end-of-season awards night and was named in the Conference team of the year, as voted by his fellow professionals.
