Our countdown to the start of the new season continues

There are 51 days until the Town kick-off the season back in the Football League at Carlisle on 9th August.

Ian Buxton, Shane Blackett, Jon Shaw and JJ O’Donnell are four of five players who appeared 51 times in Luton colours.

The fifth is striker Chris Martin, who enjoyed a fine spell on loan at Kenilworth Road in the Town’s last season in League 2 in 2008/09. The forward starred for Derby County this season, firing the Rams to the Play-Off final with a haul of 25 goals.

Martin came to Luton as a youngster from Norwich City with fellow Canary Michael Spillane. Martin made his Town debut in the 3-1 home defeat to Port Vale and scored the first of 14 goals in a 1-1 home draw against Notts County in September.

However, his moment in the spotlight for the Hatters came at Wembley when he scored the equalising goal against Scunthorpe in the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final. The Town would go on and lift the trophy with Tom Craddock and Claude Gnakpa also on target in the 3-2 win witnessed in front of 42,000 Hatters fans.
