Our countdown continues...
The Town kick-off life back in the Football League in just 45 days’ time against Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Saturday 9th August.
The Hatters lost 45 of their 228 games in the Football Conference (excluding Play-Offs) – with only five of those coming last season as the Town swept all before them on their way to lifting the title.
Of the five defeats last season, two came at Kenilworth Road – against Woking and Braintree – whilst three came on the road.
Last season’s success was in stark contrast to the previous campaign which saw the Hatters lose 15 times (six at home and nine away).
The Town lost 49 times in total during their times in the Conference including four Play-Off defeats, including once in the final in 2012 against York City.
Putting those horrible memories to the back of our minds, the Town won 119 times and drew 64 and scored 419 in the process.
And of course last season’s promotion lifts the Town back into League 2. The Hatters have won promotion from English football’s fourth tier twice in their last three campaigns at that level, in 1968 and 2002, and won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in 2009.
