Young Town team defeated by Bees development side
A mixture of Hatters Under-18s, young professionals and trailists were defeated 2-1 by Brentford in a friendly on Tuesday afternoon.
Charlie Smith, Brett Longden and Zane Banton featured for the Town against the Bees in the match which took place over three 30-minute segments.
The Town fell two goals behind inside the first 30 minutes but kept it tight in the second third to keep the score 2-0.
Youth Team boss Paul Driver, who took charge of the match, made several changes in the final 30 minutes which saw the 11 on the field made-up entirely of youth team players.
And the Hatters youngsters did well to ‘win’ the final third of the match 1-0 thanks to striker Tuki Tayali’s goal.
Despite the defeat, Driver - who gave 22 players a run-out in the game - was encouraged by the display, particularly of his young players.
“It was a good workout against strong opposition,” said Driver. “Essentially we were playing Brentford’s Under-21s and not their youth team so for our boys to do so well, especially in the final 30 minutes, is fantastic.”
