Your daily dose of Hatters history
The 9th January. A quiet day in the Town’s history books. Just 16 games recorded since 1904. The last was a win, though. Back in ’99 home-grown trio Sean Evers, Stuart Douglas and Matt Spring scored. The boys done good. The Hatters won 3-1.
The biggest win? A 4-0 thumping of Crystal Palace in Division 3 (South) in 1937. A fellow called Joe Payne scored twice. Now I’ve heard of him.
Heaviest defeat? 3-0 – twice – but who wants to hear about those? Probably only fans of Southampton and Sunderland.
Seven of the 16 matches have been won and seven have also been lost. 7+7 is 14 which leaves just two draws. How’s that for good maths?
Until tomorrow…
