Elements need to be beaten before Tamworth

The longer the season goes on the more difficult it’s going to get.

No – we’re not talking about how tough it will be to squeeze the 50,000 rearranged matches in between now and April as every Saturday game in 2014 is postponed – but the difficulty in finding a decent punt on Luton Town to win football matches.

Take this weekend for example. Whether – pun definitely intended – or not you fancy the Town to tonk Tamworth on Saturday is immaterial. One glance at the coupon and the subsequent 1/4 quote about a Hatters victory makes you frown as much as refreshing the forecast on the Met Office website.

It all means we have to take precious time away from scrutinising weather charts and rain fronts and instead hunt around bookmakers’ websites for some decent value. After all, your fiver’s worth at that price isn’t going to get you rich, is it?

But, wherever you look, it’s all the same. Depressing prices to reflect the weather. 8/11 on half-time/full-time Luton. 9/4 on Andre Gray first goalscorer. Urgh. No thanks.

So where does that leave us? Probably holding an umbrella glumly beside the pitch, watching on as yet another referee glides, groans and grimaces his away across the sodden turf before giving the game the thumbs down.

But enough of that, positive mental attitude and all that, please: the game will be on and when it’s played we’ll all realise that Tamworth struggle to score goals and Luton don’t. A repeat of the Town’s 3-0 victory over Nuneaton two weeks ago is 8/1. 4-0 is 14/1. 5-0 is 33/1. Raining goals? You bet.
