10-man Town lose at Morecambe

The Town had skipper Stephen McNulty sent-off as John Still’s side slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season at Morecambe.

The Hatters were already trailing to Kevin Ellison’s 17th-minute strike when McNulty was shown a second yellow card in the space of two minutes shortly before the half-hour mark.

Down to 10 men the Town were further punished moments before half-time when Morecambe captain Mark Hughes nodded past Mark Tyler.

After the break the Hatters did their best to reduce the deficit with Mark Cullen having their best chance 60 seconds after the restart.

But the game was up with nine minutes left when home substitute Padraig Amond tucked home from close range to score Morecambe’s third goal.

Full report and reaction to follow.

TOWN: Tyler; McNulty, Franks, Wilkinson; Howells, Harriman (Sub Miller 73); Doyle, Smith, Drury (sub Lacey 46); Whalley, Cullen (sub Lafayette 68). Subs not used: Justham, Griffiths, Rooney, Stevenson.
Attendance: 2,263, including 731 backing the Hatters
