Young Town side lose to Cobblers

An Under-18s team containing all available first-year scholars went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Northampton in the League Cup on Saturday morning.

Boss Paul Driver decided to give the first-year group an opportunity due to the Hatters' slim chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the competition.

The Cobblers may have triumphed but Driver was still happy with his young side's performance.

"We played some excellent football and for such a young team they were a credit to themselves and the club," he said.

"It's heartening to see their spirit and attitude and it shows that our group next year will be just as strong as it is now."

The Town Under-18s are back in league action next Saturday when they take on Northampton in the Youth Alliance on Saturday.
