Centre-half has contract mutually ended
Luton Town can confirm that defender Garry Richards has had his contract with the Club mutually terminated with immediate effect.
The 27-year-old former Colchester, Southend and Gillingham centre-half has been beset with injury since arriving at Kenilworth Road on a two-year contract last summer and has failed to play a single game in Hatters colours.
Despite operations and spells of rehabilitation on an ankle injury – as well as the Club’s best efforts to guide and support a full recovery – the long-term prognosis of the problem was showing little sign of improvement, and both the Club and the player have come to a mutual decision to terminate the contract.
Town boss John Still told lutontown.co.uk: “I’ve known Garry a long time and when I came to the club I was looking forward to working with him. Unfortunately with his injury that was something we were not able to do fully.
“I’m sorry that Luton supporters never got to see Garry in action because they would have seen a very good player and a terrific leader.
“Knowing Garry as I do I wish him all the best for the future and all the success whatever his career takes him.”
