Latest developments on home fans in the Oak
The Hatters are investigating the possibility of making the Oak Road end available to home supporters on a more permanent basis after the first successful trial at the match with Hyde last week.
Over 1,200 supporters took up the opportunity to watch the Skrill Premier fixture from the Oak Road end with a number of supporters swapping their usual season ticket seat in favour of a return to the Oak Road stand.
Since the game, that saw the Town triumph 4-1, the Club has received substantial feedback from supporters on the initiative, including issues raised by supporters in the Kenilworth Road stand – where visiting supporters were housed.
Managing director Gary Sweet told lutontown.co.uk: "The trial of the Oak Road was a tremendous success, both emotionally, atmospherically and commercially and the feedback we've had since proves that there is a passionate enthusiasm for supporters to return more often.
"Given the undoubted success of the initial trial, we are undertaking a number of practical viability assessments to see if a full-time return to the Oak Road for home supporters is indeed possible.
"Naturally, every potential solution would not only need to be considered very carefully commercially but, most importantly, from a crowd safety aspect too which would require the continued understanding and endorsement of the combined local authorities who, ultimately, sanction any proposals, for which we are grateful.
"As well as the positive response regarding everyone's experience of the Oak Road, we'd also like to acknowledge the issues that arose in the Kenilworth Road end during the first trial and thank those for providing their constructive feedback.
"Since the Hyde game we have held internal meetings to discuss plans of helping alleviate those issue for future trials."
The next Oak Road end trial is due to take place against Southport on 9th November, subject to either side being involved in an FA Cup tie on the same weekend.
