New deal for Town stopper

Goalkeeper Mark Tyler has signed a new one-year contract with the Hatters.

The 36-year-old put pen to paper on a deal on Friday after his contract had expired.

Since making his debut in a 1-1 draw at AFC Wimbledon in August 2009, Tyler has made 184 appearances for the Hatters and has kept 72 clean sheets.

In total Tyler has made 681 senior appearances, and was given his debut by current Town manager John Still in 1994 whilst at Peterborough.

Still told lutontown.co.uk: “You simply cannot buy experience that Mark has. I remember when I first put him in the team at Peterborough and knew then that he would go on and have fantastic career.

“He’s an invaluable member of the team and I believe he will go on be a great role model for Elliot Justham.

“Mark’s knowledge of the game and love for Luton Town is infectious and I’m delighted we will have him for another year.”

Tyler, talking to Hatters Player, said: “I didn’t want to go anywhere else. This is a great club and the supporters are fantastic.

“It’s a shame we haven’t been promoted since I’ve been here but that’s what I want to achieve, especially for the fans.

“We know we had a disappointing season and we know we’ve got to bounce back next year.

“The cup run was the highlight but I’d swap all of that for promotion any day.”
