Young Hatters in penalty glory

Biggleswade 1
Town 1
(Town win 3-2 on penalties)

Two penalty saves from youth team goalkeeper Ben Barnes helped the Hatters win their 15th Bedfordshire Premier Cup on Monday night.

A young Town side drew 1-1 in 90 minutes against Biggleswade, with Zane Banton's second half volley cancelling out Alex Witham's goal.

The Hatters came on strong as penalties loomed with Arel Amu and Charlie Smith both hitting the woodwork with fine efforts from distance.

Barnes saved the Waders' second and fourth penalties whilst JJ O'Donnell, Smith and Banton scored for the Hatters before Biggleswade, needing to score their fifth and final spot-kick, missed which meant it was the Town and captain Alex Lacey that lifted the trophy.

Town: Barnes; Longden, O'Donnell, Hutchinson, Lacey; C. Smith, Verma, Stevenson, Rees; Woolley, St Louis. Subs: Stephens, Banton, Amu, Aujila.
