Squad put through their paces on day one back
As the Ely Way training ground undergoes a re-seeding process the Hatters squad returned to pre-season training at the Vauxhall Recreation Centre on Monday morning.
The Town players were put through their paces on their first day back by assistant manager Terry Harris and newly-appointed fitness coach Dave Richards as planes from nearby Luton airport zoomed overhead – a reminder to the squad that their holidays are now over.
It was a genteel introduction to life back on the training field for the players – the bleep test apart perhaps – some jogging and light ball work for two-and-a-half hours.
However, it was a light introduction to the more serious fitness work that lies ahead as the Hatters prepare for their fifth season in the Football Conference.
“Today is very a much a day for introductions,” Harris told lutontown.co.uk. “There are a lot of new lads who need to integrate into the squad and get to know one another.
“It’ll only a light session and we’ll kick on as of Tuesday. We’ll have two sessions Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before we fly to Portugal on Friday.
“We won’t go silly on the first day because there’s a long way to go. We need to ensure that everyone is in the right state of mind.
“Fitness is obviously important. John’s teams have always been fit and organised and over the next two-to-three weeks that’s what we’ll be working on.
“It’s tried and trusted – and hopefully it will be a winning formula.”
