Freezing overnight temperatures have meant we have to regretfully inform supporters that tonight's game with Lincoln City has been postponed.
Over 50 volunteers helped remove five inches of snow from the Kenilworth Road surface yesterday to give the game a chance of going ahead. However, with temperatures plummeting several degrees on Monday night, areas of the pitch are frozen, including patches underneath snow left on the surface on the main stand side.
The club would like to thank all the volunteers who helped clear the pitch, including Busway contractors BAM Nuttall who pitched in on Monday, and apologies for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.
The referee who inspected the surface told lutontown.co.uk: “We gave the pitch a thorough look over and whilst some areas are fine, others are frozen.
“We're sorry for all the people who helped move snow off the pitch and thank them for their efforts in attempting to get the game on but at the end of the day it's a safety issue.
“The Oak Road goalmouth is frozen solid and I'm sure the goalkeepers wouldn't have been diving around on that.
“When people look out of their windows I am sure they will understand the reasons why he had to call the game off.”
A new date for the fixture will be released in due course. New dates for the Nuneaton and Ebbsfleet games are also still outstanding.
