The Town Under-18s eased into the third qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup with a comfortable 6-0 win over Peterborough Northern Star at Kenilworth Road.

Paul Driver’s side were 4-0 to the good at half-time with two goals from Zane Banton and one each from Arel Amu and Jemale McKenzie-Lowe.

Substitute Luke Trotman fired the fifth goal before Banton completed his hat-trick a minute later to make it six.

Peterborough arrived at the ground late having been stuck in traffic and the Town took full advantage early on when Banton struck twice in the first four minutes when capitalising on poor defending from the visitors.

It was 3-0 on 11 minutes when Amu finishes smartly on the turn after Banton and Jordan Davis has combined well down the right flank.

Chances continue to rain down on the visitors goal as the Town bossed proceedings and it was no surprise when they added a fourth goal two minutes before the break when McKenzie-Lowe found the bottom corner having latched onto Brett Longden’s perfectly-weighted throughball.

It was almost 5-0 42 seconds into the second half when Banton sent Davis clean through on goal but after his shot was stopped by Daniel George, the visiting goalkeeper, McKenzie-Lowe fired the rebound wide with the goal gaping.

Amu and McKenzie-Lowe both went close shortly before the hour and George denied Davis again in a one-versus-one battle on 63 minutes.

However the Town did get their fifth goal on 70 minutes when Trotman arrowed a shot past George after his initial shot was blocked in the box by the visiting defence.

Buoyed by that goal the Hatters got their sixth goal a minute later when McKenzie-Lowe’s raced down the right and crossed for Banton to seal his hat-trick by tapping home from close range.

As Peterborough pushed for a consolation the Town had time and space to add to their tally but the closest they came to a seventh came three minutes from time when Ian Rees’ header struck the crossbar.

The Town will now face with Barton Rovers or Rothwell Corinthians in the third qualifying round at Kenilworth Road in a fortnight’s time.

Town: Barnes, Longden, Galliford, Rees, Jibodu, Chabata, Davis (sub Trotman 63), Smith, McKenzie-Lowe (sub Ngwala 80), Banton (sub Stanley 80) Amu. Subs not used: Carpenter, Cole.
