Hatters edged out in six-goal thriller

The Hatters Youth Team entertained the MK Dons in the last round of games in the League Cup competition on Saturday and a high-tempo, entertaining game finished with the Dons winning 4-2 to progress to the knockout stages.

An-end-to-end first-half somehow finished with just one goal scored by the Dons to take them into the lead at the break. The Hatters best of many chances came when Jerome Jibodu missed a penalty just prior to the break.

Zane Banton struck back for the Hatters early in the second half with the MK Dons quickly regaining their lead.  After a number of chances for both teams, the impressive Arel Amu fired the home side level on 61 minutes.

The Dons got their noses back in from in the 69th minute before a controversial penalty 10 minutes later enabled them to open up a two goal lead that they retained until the end of the game.

Boss Paul Driver said afterwards: "It's obviously not been a good week for results for us with the Youth Cup exit in the week and now the League Cup.  In both games, we have created a mass of chances but only converted two and, ultimately, that has been our big downfall this week.

“On the plus side, there were some very good individual performances.  Josh Carpenter did well in goal to keep us in the game when they were a goal up, and both Darill Ngwala and Arel Amu had excellent games and are both progressing really well at the moment.”
