Draw safe bet on Sunday

It’s not often the Town aren’t favourites to win a game in the Blue Square Bet Premier but that’s precisely the case on Sunday at Mansfield when Paul Buckle’s side aim to end a two-match losing league sequence.

Division sponsors Blue Square have priced the Hatters at 7/4 to register what would be their ninth away success in all competitions this season – the biggest price to win a fixture all season.

Meanwhile, pre-season title fancies Mansfield have, by their own admission, yet to set the world alight so far this term, but boast one of the division’s best home records having only lost once at Field Mill. That came on the opening game of the campaign, and since that 4-3 defeat to current leaders Newport, the Stags have remained unbeaten and have only conceded two goals. Paul Cox’s troops are the 11/8 favourites to win with Blue Square.

However, given both side’s midweek exertions – the Stags were triumphant over Ryman League Slough on penalties in the FA Cup on Tuesday night – it might be worth siding with the draw at Blue Square’s 11/5.

The Town have never won a league fixture at Mansfield and have only scored once in four previous visits but could be boosted by the return of former Stag loanee Jon Shaw after recovering from a thigh injury. Last season’s 35-goal striker is 6/1 to net the first goal on Sunday.

Buoyed by Tuesday’s FA Cup replay win at Nuneaton the Town will be in confident mood to end their dismal record at Field Mill but the draw looks the safest option for punters.

Draw 11/5
