Get on Gray to get the goals!

Saturday’s game with Alfreton is the Town’s final home game before Christmas - but there is nothing merry about Blue Square’s 4/9 quote for Paul Buckle’s side to pick up three points at the weekend.

The Hatters haven’t won in the Blue Square Bet Premier since a 2-1 win at Forest Green on 27th November, during which time they have taken on Nuneaton and Dorchester for what seems 100 times.

As is customary when the Hatters play at home, though, the  odds on offer are as meagre as Scrooge at Christmas, but that’s not to say there aren’t any gift-wrapped prices elsewhere among the Blue Square’s many markets to take advantage of.

Take, for example, the 4/1 about striker Andre Gray to score the first goal. The 21-year-old is in fine form having scored three goals in his last three games – four if you include the own goal he forced at Dorchester.

His opening goal last Saturday in the FA Cup against Dorchester was of real class, showcasing the frontman’s pace and power. A confident, on-song Gray is hard to stop, and 4/1 is good value in an otherwise stingy coupon.

Alfreton are a tough nut to crack – as the Town found to their cost back in September – and although they lie in 16th place, they are just four points off of eighth place with as many as three games in hand on teams above them in the table.

Nicky Law’s side have only won twice at home: to the Town and to leaders Newport, but they, like the Hatters, reserve their best form for their travels, where they have won four and drawn three of their 10 games this season, equating to just a 30 per cent losing ratio away from home.

Blue Square have priced the visitors at 11/2 to be the fourth team to leave Kenilworth Road with all three points this season. The draw is a 3/1 chance.

Recommendation:

Andre Gray goal to score first 4/1

Our tipster is showing a £91.93 profit (to a £10 level stake) on his selections this season.
