Nathan Jones praised yet another strong pre-season outing against Northampton Town this afternoon as the league season continues to loom closer.

Goals from Elijah Adebayo and Dan Potts completed a second-half turnaround as the Hatters secured their fourth consecutive victory of pre-season, heading into the final two friendlies.

Adebayo got off the mark in pre-season with a cool finish early in the second half and Jones was pleased the striker managed to do so, commenting: “We’re trying to get him to be as aggressive as he was last year and second half, he was much better. He had more aggression, affected the game much more and we’re in a good place striker-wise.

“We needed that because it cost us last year. We picked up injuries and we went into important games and we didn’t quite have the strength and depth to really affect Huddersfield in the play-offs.

"I thought we were excellent for the majority of both games but we just lacked a little bit of fire power and killer instinct. Now we have a little bit more of that.”

Jones and his players were reunited with Danny Hylton as the former striker played 70 minutes for Northampton this afternoon, an experience the manager described as strange!

“Danny has been a big part of what we do but he will do wonderfully well for this football club. He’s still a class act, he’s still a menace of a number nine and I wouldn’t fancy him week-in, week-out, as half of ours did first half.

“He knows the game, the way he goes about his work is fantastic, he’s done fantastic for me and he will do fantastic for these.”
