Watch: Matt Bloomfield's pre-Lincoln press conference

Hatters boss delivers positive update on Mengi, but disappointing news on Walsh

Manager Matt Bloomfield spoke to the press ahead of Saturday's trip to Lincoln City for a 12.30pm kick-off.

The Town boss spoke about Teden Mengi being closer to a return to first team action after playing 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors Under-21 friendly against Reading on Tuesday afternoon.

Midfielder Liam Walsh, however, has been ruled out a period of time after requiring surgery on a shoulder injury suffered in training earlier this week.

"Ted played 45 minutes yesterday in an Under-21 game, which was great for him," said Bloomfield of the England Under-21 centre-back. "He's getting closer, he's been training well for a couple of weeks now and he's a big footballer, he's a big player for us.

"Unfortunately for us he's been robbed of lots of games through injury in the period of time we've been here, but he's trained very well in pre-season, he's missed a little while but he's back training with the group and played 45 yesterday."

On midfielder Walsh, he said: "Walshy has received an injury unfortunately, he fell on his elbow in training, really innocuous and has hurt his shoulder, so he's gone in for an operation today and he'll be out for six to eight weeks until return to training, so he'll be out for a couple of months, which is a real blow for him and for us."
