Watch | James Bree's take on Barnsley victory!

James Bree said that last night’s victory over Barnsley was all about the three points despite the team not being at their very best.

Winning ugly is a good trait to have and whilst it wasn’t a classic at Kenilworth Road, it meant that Town moved up to seventh place in the Championship after extending their league unbeaten run to four matches.

“It’s another three points. The points tally is going forward that’s what the gaffer said before the game, just get another win. I don’t think it was pretty, I don’t think it was our best football, but I don’t think we’ve played our best football for a while now and we’re grinding out results which is the main thing.”

Despite Barnsley’ struggles for points, Bree admitted: “They came out and played quite well in the first 20 minutes. We sat off them and we didn’t give the fans much to shout out but then we nicked a goal and should have kept a clean sheet but in the end it was a good three points.

“We always go on about starting quick and for whatever reason we didn’t do that tonight. It was a great goal by them to be fair, they played it really well. I think we’ve defended really well recently, and it was disappointing because it came from one of our corners. It was disappointing just before half-time but like I said, doesn’t matter now.”

On a personal note, Bree has been working closely with Alan Sheehan, a relationship that is proving fruitful on the pitch.

“My deliveries weren’t great but I’ve been doing a bit of work with Sheez here and there, he talks to me and says you have good delivery, just don’t put as much on it and put it in good areas.

“Sheez has been doing all the set pieces for us and he’s been really good. That’s his main focus and what we spoke about was because it’s only a two or three step run-up here, it’s hard to take corners especially when you’re stepping up the Astro turf. He said just take a little bit off it and leave it in there, and I think it’s working so long may it continue."

The right-back is also relishing the backing of his manager Nathan Jones, saying: “The gaffer has said since day one that he backs me 100 per cent and he will get on me now and again which I need sometimes. It feels me with confidence, I know he believes in me, I know all the lads believe in me and I’m glad the fans are backing me as well.”
