The Town Under-21s go in search of a victory tonight that would earn a place in the knockout rounds of the Premier League Cup for the very first time.
Alex Lawless’ side take on Brighton and Hove Albion at St Albans City’s Clarence Park tonight (kick-off 7pm) knowing a win will take them through as one of the top seven second-placed teams in the group stage.
“It’s a brilliant carrot for us and we’re in a great position, knowing that we have to win to get through,” Lawless told lutontown.co.uk.
“At the start of the competition, we would have taken to be a win away from getting through in the final game.
“A victory would take us to 10 points – that’s a good return and proves that you deserve to go through, so the boys have something to really aim for.”
Last season the Town youngsters exited the Premier League Cup with no points to show in their six group games.
However, results have improved this term, with two wins from their five fixtures so far – including a 2-1 win at Brighton back in November.
“Brighton are a good side and, although we’re not playing at Kenilworth Road, we played our last match at St Albans so it does feel like a home tie on familiar territory,” added Lawless, whose side were held to a 2-2 draw with Reading in their last fixture.
“We want to go one better than we did in our last game against Reading and go one better than we did last season.
“To do that, we have to win and with that incentive to get through we’re all excited.”
Supporters wishing to attend the game can still purchase tickets online. Admission is £5 for adults and £1 concession. To buy, and for more information, click here.
