The Town Under-18s made it three Youth Alliance wins on the spin with a 2-0 victory over Northampton on Tuesday afternoon.

Joe Deeney’s side began the year in style by thrashing Milton Keynes 5-1 last week, and goals from Archie Shepherd and Tate Xavier-Jones made it back-to-back wins to start 2025.

The Hatters led in the seventh minute when Charlie Trustram fizzed in a cross for Shepherd to finish well.

As the Town dominated, Northampton began to get frustrated, picking up a number of first-half yellow cards.

And with 38 minutes on the clock, the Cobblers were reduced to 10 men when the left-back was shown a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

Two minutes later the Town took advantage and Xavier-Jones doubled the lead with a fantastic strike from 25 yards.

The Hatters showed their resilient side after the break as Northampton pushed for a way back into the game.

And the Town defence held firm and could have extended the lead only for two efforts to be cleared off the line by the Cobblers.

“I’m delighted with the victory and we were worthy winners against a physical Northampton side,” said Deeney afterwards.

“It’s been a good start to the year and I’m proud of their performance.”

The Under-18s face Northampton again in the return fixture at The Brache on Saturday aiming to make it six league wins in a row.

Town: Pipa, Asamoah Jnr, Fox, Chigozie, Roberts-Edema, Kwame Sampson, Ioannides, Stitt, Xavier-Jones, Trustram, Shepherd.
