The Town ended pre-season unbeaten after holding Tottenham to a goalless draw at Kenilworth Road.

In front over 10,000 fans the Hatters warmed up for next Friday’s League One opener against AFC Wimbledon with a controlled display against the Premier League side.

And Matt Bloomfield’s side had the better of chances, coming close several times in second half but had to settle for a draw with the Europa League winners.

Spurs had the first chance of the game in the 10th minute when Mohammed Kudus ran through to clip a shot past Josh Keeley but Christ Makosso cleared the effort of the line.

That would be the closest the visitors would come to breaching Keeley’s goal as the Town went on to dominate.

Nahki Wells drilled a free-kick into the Spurs wall on 14 minutes after Jordan Clark was fouled before newly-appointed captain Kal Naismith curled a shot wide.

On 24 minutes Wells was involved again when he shot wide after Keeley had set up a chance thanks to his fine pass but the striker was deemed to be offside.

As half-time approached, Millenic Alli flashed a cross-shot wide after Spurs had gifted the Town possession on the edge of the box and Makosso nodded just over the crossbar from George Saville’s right-wing corner moments before the interval.

With no changes for the Hatters at the break, the Town came out on top early in the second period and came close to taking the lead on several occasions.

On 53 minutes the Hatters carved out what would be the best chance of the game when Alli sped down the left to hang up a cross for to the unmarked Wells in the box. The striker met the pass beautifully on the volley but his crisp effort was parried away by Antonin Kinsky in the Spurs goal.

The chances kept coming, and 30 seconds later, Alli raced down the left once more, cut inside and tested Kinsky with a low drive that the goalkeeper blocked with his legs.

Still the Town came forward and a fine move from back to front a minute later saw Clark feed Wells in the penalty area and his first-time shot flew just high and wide.

Bloomfield looked to the bench as time ticked past the hour, and it wasn’t until the 76th minute that Keeley was tested when he got down to pounce on a deflection inside the six-yard box after the dangerous Kudus had burst in on goal.

A raft of substitutes followed for both sides in the closing stages and Spurs had the final chance of the afternoon when Will Lankshear scuffed an effort wide after being found 15 yards out.

The final whistle would come a minute later to signify the Town’s final action of a pre-season that has seen them win five of their six games and concede just twice.

Next up is the serious business of League One action for the curtain-raiser against AFC Wimbledon at the Kenny next Friday.

We’ll see you then.
