Darren Frimpong-Kwakye scored his first goal as a Hatter to help our U18s to an impressive 4-1 victory over Wycombe at The Brache
Frimpong-Kwakye, a second half substitute, notched the final goal of the game following an opener from Nassim El-Gourja and second half goals from Ty Lesser and Dawid Gawel to emphatically claim victory and a much needed three points.
In an entertaining first half in which an energetic press set the tone, chances came thick and fast but unfortunately never presented any clear cut opportunities. Midway through the half, a clever run from El-Gourja got the midfielder free from the opposition defence before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper at his near post, opening the scoring for Town.
With the score still only 1-0 at half-time, Deeney’s side made sure to continue the impressive work ethic that had benefited them in the first half, pressing with conviction against a Wanderers side that insisted on playing out from defensive set-plays.
The determination proved pivotal in the next two Town goals as midfielder Lesser latched onto a misplaced pass and skilfully rounded the goalkeeper before putting the ball into the empty net just ten minutes into the second half.
The Hatters were rampant again in their pressure, resulting in a third goal just past the hour mark, with in-form striker Gawel also intercepting a wayward ball from a Wycombe defender to get through clean on goal, managing to get just enough on his effort to slide the ball over the goal line to make 3-0.
A solitary Wycombe goal came in the 77th minute but Town weren’t finished scoring just yet, with a goal just before additional time courtesy of Frimpong-Kwakye, the Wycombe goalkeeper came for the ball but could only skew contact which allowed it to roll across the area for the unmarked winger to smash the ball home to make it 4-1 at the final whistle.
