The Hatters endured a frustrating afternoon as in-form Rotherham left with a point from a goalless encounter at Kenilworth Road.
The result lifted the Town up a place in the table, to eighth, and extended the unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches with the winning sequence ending at four.
Manager Jack Wilshere made one change from last Saturday’s impressive 3-0 away win at table-toppers Stockport County.
Jerry Yates made his first league start under the new boss, replacing George Saville, who is away on international duty with Northern Ireland.
The first chance of the afternoon fell Rotherham’s way. A sumptuous volleyed delivery from the right-hand side from Joe Rafferty was met by the head of Jordan Hugill, but his effort was headed into the grasp of Josh Keeley.
Another right-sided delivery from Rafferty found Joe Powell at the backpost, who was immediately thwarted by Izzy Jones for the game's first corner, which was easily dealt with by the Hatters.
Mads Andersen was the first man to have his name in referee Craig Hicks’ book after he wrestled Martin Sherif to the floor at the halfway line.
Town tried to prise an opening, with Jones and Jake Richards on the right and Cohen Bramall a constant threat on the left, but Lamine Fanne's shot that went well wide of the target in the 27th minute was as close as they came.
A sublime ball over the top of the Rotherham defence picked out ex-Miller Bramall, and he delivered the ball into a great area, but there was no Hatters players on hand to provide the finishing touch and the sides went in goalless at half-time.
The boss made one change at the break. Jake Richards departed, with Gideon Kouda the man who replaced him, and the Town saw plenty of the ball, but were struggling to create any real goalscoring opportunities in the early stages of the second half.
Kodua found himself in the space out on the right, he fired a ball across the area but Cameron Dawson, who had a fairly straightforward afternoon, was able to claim, while Yates flashed a cross-shot in that flew across the face of goal, with the ex-United striker claming the keeper had saved it.
Sub Zack Nelson was next to try his luck, but his long-range effort soared high into the Kenilworth Road End and with 12 minutes remaining, Scotland international Jacob Brown made his first appearance since March after recovering from injury.
Milli Alli was also introduced, with the duo coming on in place of Bramall and Fanne, and while Kodua’s snapshot flew wide of Dawson’s post and Brown almost got in with a flicked header, those chances represented the final attempts at goal from the Hatters, who had to settle for a point.
