Thomas Kaminski spoke of his pride in his team-mates, manager Matt Bloomfield, the Luton Town supporters and the whole club after a huge show of support following the passing of his father, Jacek, this week.
Our goalkeeper ended the most difficult of weeks with a fourth clean sheet in eight games in the 1-0 win over Coventry at a sold-out Kenilworth Road.
Afterwards, the 32-year-old said: “It’s been a tough couple of days but it went so quick as well. I was adamant that I wanted to play and I think the boys gave me the clean sheet today, they were brilliant and I think we deserved to win.
“That’s why we won, and it was always going to be a win, I think. I’m so proud.”
The whole of the Kenny rose to applaud in his dad’s memory in the 65th minute, which Thomas acknowledged with applause of his own after the Hatters had cleared a City free-kick.
“I had read something on social media, I got it sent to me by a couple of people,” he said. “My dad, he would have been very proud – I know what he would have said. It’s a proud moment for me. I know he is with me, I know he is around me and that’s what matters.”
And thanking his team-mates and the manager, who travelled to Belgium on Thursday so his number one would not have to travel back to England alone, he added: “The boys have been really good. I think every single player messaged me, to start with.
“The gaffer did an unbelievable gesture in coming to Brussels, he came to see my mum as well, which is special. It’s unbelievable and that support means everything to me, means everything to my family and we can’t thank the club enough for the way they handled it and they supported me.
“I think that’s what Luton stands for, and that’s what you saw today; that we are together, and we are in this together, no matter what. I am so proud and pleased that we got the win.”
