Team news | Ankle injury rules out Issa

Town boss Rob Edwards has said on-loan defender Issa Kaboré is unlikely to play again for the Hatters this season after sustaining an ankle sprain in last week’s defeat to Brentford.

“It’s a real shame because he’s been great for us and consistent for us – I’m disappointed for him,” said Edwards at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Issa’s always done what we’ve asked of him and played an important role. We’ve really enjoyed working with him. He’s a diamond of a lad and commits 100 per cent every single day. We’ll support him and get him back on his feet.”

The boss had better news on the fitness of striker Elijah Adebayo, who continues to make progress in his recovery from a hamstring issue.

“Eli’s getting closer but tomorrow will be too soon,” said Edwards. “He’ll be the next one off the conveyor belt in terms of the injured lads next to be back.”

Gabe Osho and Sambi Lokonga have felt no ill effects after they returned to action last weekend, while Reece Burke has recovered from illness that saw him withdrawn at half-time against Brentford.

“Gabe and Sambi have benefited from that and have trained well,” said the manager. “It was a little bit ‘welcome back to the Premier League, deal with that’ but their performances were good – the scoreline certainly wasn’t a reflection on them.”

The only remaining player to be discussed at the press call was Chiedozie Ogbene.

“He’s been on the grass this week,” confirmed Edwards. “He’s got a chance for the final two games but he’s behind Eli in terms of timescales.”
