Swansea match dedicated to the British Heart Foundation

Charity spread the importance of learning CPR

Locks Rob Every Minute Matters

The Hatters' match against Swansea City at Kenilworth Road is dedicated to the British Heart Foundation.

With the first anniversary of our captain Tom Lockyer suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at Bournemouth approaching, the charity with whom we have worked closely in recent months will be out on the Kenilworth Apron before the game spreading the word on their Every Minute Matters campaign and the importance of learning CPR.

Together with EFL sponsors Sky Bet, the BHF have produced this impactful video telling the story of Hatters supporter Paul Rodell, whose life was saved by fellow fan Sue Collins performing CPR after he collapsed on Kenilworth Road while walking up to the Chelsea match last December, a fornight after Locks' incident.

There are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year, equating to at least five every 90 minutes. Each minute that passes without CPR reduces the chance of survival by up to 10 per cent.

Research commissioned by Sky Bet found that 45% of football fans lack the confidence to perform CPR.

The British Heart Foundation’s online tool RevivR provides a quick and easy course for those looking to learn.

As well as acknowledging Sue's heroics at tomorrow's match, we would also like to direct supporters to the fundraising efforts of Sue and Paul's daughter-in-law, Helen, who have both entered the London Landmark Half Marathon next year in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

"There is no way of thanking Sue for what she did that day, but by increasing funds raised for this very worthy charity, I hope that it goes some way towards it," says Helen, pictured below with Sue, on her JustGiving page.
