Press Conference | Rob Edwards pre Wigan Athletic (FA Cup replay)

Manager Rob Edwards says the focus is purely on Tuesday’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round replay against Wigan Athletic, ahead of a double-header at the DW Stadium this week.

Edwards and his side will travel to Greater Manchester for a cup and league fixture twice in the space of four days and stressed that rather than one game being more important than the other, it is in fact the next game that counts.

With a potential Fourth Round tie against Grimsby Town, the boss said: “It is a great opportunity, but like I said this last week, we can’t think further ahead the this right now. The focus will be purely on Wigan, we’re well aware of the prize if we do win, but no game is a walk in the park, and I don’t think anyone should get ahead of themselves at all. It’s going to be a real challenge tomorrow, but one we’re certainly looking forward to and the players are in a confident mood as well.”

As it was at Kenilworth Road, Edwards is anticipating a tight, highly competitive fixture as the Hatters look to progress to the next round for the third year in succession.

“We know the areas we want to try and improve on if it does go that way but there are no games of football that are exactly the same, and there are no three games of football that are ever the same. We have to make sure we’re right, concentrate on our game and be ready to adapt and change anything during the game as well which you have to do whoever you’re playing.”

Providing a brief team news update, Reece Burke and Luke Berry could be involved in the trip, the latter who missed Saturday’s defeat against West Bromwich Albion.

“Reece is okay to go. I think he’s been progressing very well, got an hour into him (against Wigan), was able to build on some of the minutes he got against Huddersfield and he’s been training well since then. He’s in a really good place at the moment.

“Bez trained today which is good news, he was out on the grass, so I’ll have a quick catch-up with him when I’m done.

“There will be a couple of changes, but not many,” he continued. “There’ll be a little bit of freshness added. One or two that may be forced, but then it’s about – the bottom line is that we want to win the game. We want to go with the team that I feel is going to win the game.”
