Experienced defender Erik Pieters has agreed a short-term deal to join Luton Town.

The 36-year-old trained with the Hatters during the summer and started in a pre-season friendly against Stevenage at The Brache in July.

A former Netherlands international, Pieters made over 140 Eredivisie appearances for Utrecht and PSV Eindhoven, where he played Champions League football, before his move to the Premier League with Stoke City in 2014.

Erik spent eight seasons in the top-flight and featured in over 200 Premier League games for the Potters and Burnley.

The Dutchman last played in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion, where he made over 60 appearances for the Baggies across two seasons before leaving The Hawthorns in the summer.

“Erik is a hugely experienced left-sided defender who we know well after training with us in the summer,” explained manager Rob Edwards.

“With one or two of the issues that we’ve got at the moment, we feel that that Erik will be able to help us during this period.

“It may not necessarily be with game time. It could mean help with training and if he gets an opportunity then it’s down to him.

“He’s a good guy, very experienced and can bring balance to our defensive options during this difficult period with the injuries we currently have.”

Welcome to Kenilworth Road, Erik!
