Must win games and big weeks.

That was the talk at The Brache on Friday as Rob Edwards fielded questions from the media ahead of the Town’s trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Having lost their last four matches in the Premier League – against the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool and Aston Villa – the Hatters head to south London chasing three vital points in their quest to beat the drop.

Given the Town then travel to Bournemouth on Wednesday before facing Nottingham Forest at Kenilworth Road a week on Saturday, questions inevitably rose about the importance of these fixtures prior to the international break.

“We know every game is important, this one is because it’s the next one, but it’s not a must win as if we don’t it doesn’t relegate us,” Edwards said.

“However, we do recognise the importance of the game and the players are on board with that. It’s the first of 12 huge games coming up for us.

“Clearly it’s important we can take something from these three games, it can give us some real belief and confidence.

“It’s a boring answer but we’re just concentrating on this game. It could put us in a good position going into the next. It is a big week.”

Asked if he had set any targets on the week ahead, Edwards replied: “We don’t have a target – we want to try and win them all and nine points would be great – but we know how difficult it is to win matches in the Premier League.

“We’ve set only a little aim going into the international break and the players are all on board. We’ll try and win all three games, and we haven’t won three in a row yet. It’s a big, big week coming.

“But we know if we don’t perform we’ll struggle to get points.

“We are putting the pressure on but it’s not like we’re panicking – we recognise the importance of this week. We’re just trying to find the sweet spot… however the players have responded well to dealing with pressurised games.”
