Morris strike earns win over Lviv

Striker grabs third goal of pre-season to see off Ukrainian side

Morris 3

An early goal from Carlton Morris proved to the be the difference as the Hatters earned a narrow win over Ruhk Lviv in their first friendly in Slovenia.

The striker found the target for the third time this pre-season in the 15th minute, tucking home from close range after Alfie Doughty and Tahith Chong had combined well down the left flank.

Morris was involved again six minutes later when the Town had a chance to double their lead from the penalty spot after the being fouled in the box – only for Cauley Woodrow to see his effort saved by Lviv goalkeeper Dmytro Ledviy.

Leading at the break following a first half low on action, the second period was halted shortly after the restart when Chong was on the wrong end of a nasty collision that saw him substituted and replaced by Chiedozie Ogbene.

When play resumed, Lviv came close to levelling on 63 minutes when Illya Kvasnytsya’s effort was deflected behind by Joe Johnson.

Further substitutions meant the game lacked any kind of fluency but the Town came closest to adding to the scoreline in the final 15 minutes from two set pieces.

Firstly, Johnson headed wide following Doughty’s corner and then, in stoppage time, Tom Holmes saw a header claimed by Ledviy from Andros Townsend’s corner.

Next up for the Hatters is a meeting with Turkish side Göztepe in Slovenia on Saturday – a game which will also be streamed live, for free, on lutontown.co.uk.
