McGuinness: "We do our work now"

Town defender looks forward to first return to Cardiff

Hatters defender Mark McGuinness is relishing his first return to Cardiff City Stadium as a Luton Town player tomorrow night – and is determined to put Saturday’s defeat at Burnley behind him.

The Republic of Ireland international knows that the midweek trip to South Wales, against the club from whom he joined the Hatters in August, is a huge encounter for Matt Bloomfield’s side.

“It’s probably one good thing about the Championship schedule is that there's no time to dwell on it and sit on the emotions,” he said of the reaction to the 4-0 reversal at Turf Moor.

“We've got to move on quickly and I think we did. There were a few voices in the dressing room afterwards, just to get the message across really clear and moving forward.

“This game tomorrow was very much a game that we knew we were going into and focused on.

“Every game we play, we go in to win. There's no hiding from that and that's very clear. But when there's games like this, it probably means an extra bit, whether that comes from us or fans or everyone else.

“But for us, it’s very clear. We do our work now. We’ve had one-and-a-half days to prepare ourselves, recover, and I think everyone is ready now.”

The former Arsenal defender went on: “We’ve got a real good opportunity now to really stick together. For me this is where I think I can come in and really help the boys. I enjoy the fight, I enjoy the pressures of that.”

And as he prepares to make his 35th appearance for the Hatters against the side where he spent three years prior to his summer move, he added: “For the fans, I these next couple of months they will really see what I'm about. I love these games, these pressure moments where we have to dig and fight.”
