Centre-half departs for Bramall Lane in permanent deal

McGuinness moves to Sheffield United

Central defender Mark McGuinness has completed a permanent move to Championship side Sheffield United.

The 24-year-old arrived at Kenilworth Road last season from Cardiff City and went on to play 44 times in all competitions at the heart of the Hatters defence, scoring three times.

He also made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland, playing against England at Wembley in November.

He made seven appearances for the Hatters this season and leaves with our best wishes for his time at Bramall Lane and future career.

Manager Matt Bloomfield said: “Mark is an incredible man who I wish nothing but success. The integrity he has shown, and the way he has conducted himself this summer with some interest, is a mark of who he is and what he stands for.

“We’re disappointed to lose him but it’s a great move for him and wish him nothing but the best.”
