The fight for relegation comes down to the last set of fixtures and Town know that if victorious on the night, and if results go their way, they will remain in the division.

Opponents Blackburn, who beat Reading 4-3 on Saturday, are in 10th place but cannot reach the play-off places.

On facing Blackburn: “I don’t see it like that. If I’m honest, I would probably rather play someone that are on a knife-edge like we are because I think a lot could happen. Blackburn could play with freedom, they could come here in one or two ways, I don’t know their motivation so I’m not sure. I can’t second guess what Blackburn are going to do, one thing you do know is that the other teams have to win. They both have to win and in those games a lot can happen, nerves can get to people. I’m not sure if Blackburn are coming here with that nervousness and that makes them a dangerous side.”

On Christian Walton: “He done really well (when on loan with Luton), had a good season. Had a real good season at Blackburn, he’s had some good loans, been brave, gone out, he’s a real good lad and we were sorry to leave him. Maybe our pathway that season would have been slightly different if he stayed, not that we would change any of our pathway but it might have been different because he was a real settled influence in the squad within the back four and he was a big miss. I’m delighted to see him do well, I genuinely hope he doesn’t do well tomorrow night but I hope we are good enough that we don’t have to talk about that! He’s a great lad, great character, very good goalkeeper with a good future, who really wants to work hard.”

On how players will approach tomorrow’s game: “It is all about points, however we get them it doesn’t matter, just getting the points. If you play gung-ho and really open, you get hurt at this level, that has been shown. We’ve already got a goal difference that is a hindrance to us in terms of a point. We can’t afford to do that so what I’ve tried to do is make sure we are in every game and we have an opportunity to win every game.”

Who?

Premiership winners in 1995, Blackburn Rovers are an established club in the English game that were relegated into the Championship in 2012. After some troublesome times, they went down into League One, a division they were promoted from in 2018. Manager Tony Mowbray led them to that promotion, as well as a 15th place finish on their return into the Championship last season.

When and where?

Kick-off is 7:30pm at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday 22 July.

Man in the middle?

The referee for tomorrow’s game is Darren Bond – who has taken charge of 34 games this season, dishing out 111 yellow cards and two reds.
