Luton Town can confirm that a mutual agreement has been reached with Marvelous Nakamba to terminate the Zimbabwe midfielder’s contract with immediate effect.

Marvelous initially joined the Town on loan from Aston Villa in the January transfer window of the 2022/23 season, and he made 20 appearances in our promotion to the Premier League.

No Hatter will ever forget Marv’s contribution to that success, with his song ringing around Wembley after he netted his penalty in the shoot-out win over Coventry City.

The pre-season training camp in Slovenia two months later was lit up by the return to the club, this time on a permanent basis, of that trademark smile as the Hatters agreed a transfer with Villa to get his signature on a three-year contract.

He started the 2023/24 season in similar fashion to his loan spell, making 14 appearances before a knee injury sustained while on World Cup qualifying duty with Zimbabwe ruled him out of the remainder of the campaign.

Last term Nakamba made 23 appearances, while this season he has appeared four times to take his total in a Luton Town shirt to 61 appearances.

On behalf of the board, Hatters CEO Gary Sweet said: “Marvelous has been a huge part of our success, a special character who came to add real quality at the time we needed it to help us to promotion.

“He has been a pleasure to have around the Club, always smiling, even through some tough times personally with injury.

“Everyone at Luton Town thanks Marv for his contribution in his three years at Kenilworth Road, he will always be a welcome visitor, and we wish him every success for his future career.”

Thank you, and good luck, Marv!
