Amber Leighton completed a hat-trick as Luton Town Ladies embarrassed Haringey Borough with a 7-1 scoreline on Sunday afternoon.

There was only one change for the Hatters from their 1-0 victory over Royston Town last weekend, with defender Bridget Adu dropping to the bench and forward Cesca Partridge coming into the starting line-up.

It took Partridge just six minutes to mark her return to the starting XI with a goal. The forward partnership of Partridge and Tasha Fensome delivered as the latter collected the ball on the left and perfectly set up Partridge to head the ball into the net.

Just five minutes later, Leighton doubled Luton’s lead with her first. Fensome set off on a quick, powerful run down the left-hand side and teed up Leighton, whose first time shot was fired into the back of the net.

Five minutes later, Luton scored again, this time through Jess McKay. Buttigieg’s shot at full stretch was saved by the keeper, the ball fell to Partridge who also saw her shot saved, but the defender was only able to clear into the path of McKay, who had a simple finish into an open net.

With just 23 minutes on the clock, the Hatters had a fourth. Liz Mulvaney set off on a mazy run, she then played an inch-perfect through ball to Leighton, who slotted the ball into the back of the net for her second of the afternoon.

Ten minutes before half-time, 18-year-old Leighton completed her hat-trick. It was from another great pass, this time from Shianne Swarres, that Leighton was put through on goal and she finished in an almost identical way to her second.

Elly Wade (pictured) scored Luton’s sixth goal of the afternoon five minutes after the break. A free kick from the half-way line was directed into the box from Buttigieg, a Haringey player got an unfortunate touch on the ball, gifting Luton’s captain a tap in.

With 15 to play, Haringey got their consolation. A rare mix-up at the back, allowed Nia Garwood to be through on goal and she put the ball past Sarah Hudson.

With eight to play, Luton was awarded a penalty. Gabriella Spillman, who was proving to be a handful, was taken out in the box. Fensome stepped up and slotted the ball away into the bottom right corner to complete the rout.

Another three points for the Ladies see them close the gap on league leaders Royston Town to just three points with a game in hand.
