Luton Town Ladies secured their eighth win in a row on Sunday afternoon as goals from Gabriella Spillman, Tasha Fensome and Fiona Buttigieg secured a 3-0 win at Cambridge City on Sunday.
The Hatters were kept at bay for a majority of the first half. Buttigieg’s corner, just shy of the 20th minute mark was whipped in towards the back post, but no Town player were able to get a touch goalwards.
But in a first-half of few chances, Jess McKay’s long-range free kick was then hit narrowly wide of the post.
After the break Tsaianne Leander found herself one-on-one in the 49th minute, but Cambridge’s goalkeeper made a fine save to keep the game goalless.
However, with 20 minutes to play, Spillman gave the Hatters the lead when her well-timed touch around the oncoming goalkeeper found its way into the back of the net.
Moments later Fensome doubled the lead. She collected the ball on the right-hand side of the box and poked the ball past the makeshift goalkeeper.
And two became three in the final minute when Buttigieg netted her third goal in three games, via a sensational free-kick from 25 yards that flew into the roof of the net.
The Ladies have a local derby next week as they welcome Watford Development on Sunday at Barton Rovers with a 2pm kick-off.
